Wesley Hornpetrie cello
DMV-based cellist Wesley Hornpetrie enjoys diving into chamber music and interarts collaborations as a performer, improviser, and organizer. She is most energized developing projects with colleagues who feel the same urgency that live performance can and should foster human connection and a shared feeling of community.
Originally from Oklahoma, Wesley now enjoys performing around the Washington D.C. region. She has been featured as a cellist on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts, The Candlelight Concert Series, and was the cellist/actor in Netflix's Bridgerton Experience in Washington D.C.
Wesley has recently collaborated with artists including Bryce Dessner, Mustafa, JACK Quartet, Roomful of Teeth, and International Contemporary Ensemble. She is also a founding member of Virago, a mixed quartet that melds free improvisation and contemporary chamber music into a contagious headspace of out-of-the box expression; Virago has put out 2 albums since its 2018 establishment. She is thrilled to play cello in the INSCAPE Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble dedicated to pushing the boundaries of classical music and traditional concert experiences. As a pit musician, she made her debut with Detroit Opera and Annapolis Opera in 2025. Dedicated to the creation of new works, she plays with the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music every summer in the Bay Area.
As an organizer, she is the founder and executive director of Third Place [MusicFest], and she serves on the Sewanee Summer Music Festival advisory board. Additionally, she directs Regenerate! Orchestra of the DMV, a community orchestra comprised of non-musicians, hobbyists, and musicians of all levels dedicated to community building through experimental performance art practices.
She holds degrees from The University of Michigan, Oklahoma City University, and received her doctorate from University of Maryland in 2024, which is what brought her to the east coast in 2021 with her dog Marla and wife Jenny.
